Can you guys just give me a hand working out which forum bugs are still in need of fixing. I don't want to go to the trouble of upgrading all the forums and then find I've missed a few out and have to do it all over again :).

Ones I've already fixed in the new version:
  • Posting options not always ticked when they should be
  • Admin bypassing of HTML filter doesn't work
  • HTML parser doesn't like </li>'s
Ones that I still need to look at:
  • URL parsing bugs: problems with commas in URLs, problems with HTML links where the link name starts www.
  • Posting when not logged in (i.e. enter your username/password in the boxes) may still not work
  • Fixing the links on the big threaded list page
New stuff
  • Lots of optimisations that should speed things up
  • BB-code allowing things like bold for the non-HTML literate among us
  • Search feature
  • Proper move thread thingy (leaving placeholders in the forum you're moving from)
  • Improved user profile page
  • Buddy/ignore list
  • 'Report this post to a moderator'
  • Frontend for the 'pin thread to top of the list' feature

Sounds good 8)
  • Fixing the links on the big threaded list page
Plus on the page you get after posting/editing a post - it links to the first page of the thread instead of the page with the post on.

*sifts through the bug report thread*

Nothing missing from there, although there are a couple I've just come up with now:
  • For some reason my avatar next to my name doesn't show up when I preview a post. I've checked the page source and the image URL is the same as for a normal page, so I've got no idea why it's not showing.
  • A preview option for the edit post page could be useful.
Keep up the good work :)

What is the status of the forum code; is this going to be a commercial product at some point?

You still need to stop people posting to locked threads (such as this one). Just hiding the 'reply to this message' links isn't good enough if the people know how to cut and paste post IDs from the threaded list into the reply URL ;)

Something that seems to have crept back in
is the very wide lines in some topics.
An example of this is the 'Iron Dignity' thread
which requires a 1280*1024 screen to avoid
horizontal scrolling in Browse, Fresco, and
Oregano (but not WebsterXL which is ok in
800*600).
Also I notice if I'm not logged in, then the
Site Comments always seems to have scripting
errors in the description box (only checked in
Browse), these go away after logging in.

That's probably due to this preformatted table I stuck in. I suppose I should have wrapped the lines a bit, really ;)

Family 3D Status
RADEON 9700 \
RADEON 9000 +- XFree86 drivers available on the ATI website support hardware 3D acceleration
RADEON 8500 /
RADEON \- 3D drivers are available from the DRI Project.
RAGE 128 /
RAGE PRO -- 3D support is a work in progress from the UTAH-GLX Project.

[Edit - The table in the Iron Dignity thread should be OK now]

Can't see any problems in IE.

Ah, I see - I've just checked the page source, and it's there for me as well (Even when I'm logged in). Don't know why browse would display it though.

Quick other nicety... The swear filter. When you reply to a message that has a filtered out swear word, the word is actually displayed in the reply box. Would it be possible to parse that box too?

Do we have to have a swear filter at all? It's not like people don't know what the words are, after all; there doesn't seem much point.

It's probably best to play it safe and keep the filter in, so that people mindlessly swearing can be cut out. Plus there is the perfectly valid counter-argument to your argument; if we all know what the words are, then why do we need to have them in an uncensored form?

Here's a new one: While viewing this thread http://www.iconbar.com/forums/viewthread.php?threadid=2525, this error appeared at the top of the (apparantly normal) page:

deletedmessage.tmpl doesn't exist!

Plus, possibly related to this, this thread - http://www.iconbar.com/forums/viewthread.php?threadid=2077 - has magically migrated from the playpen to the test post forum (Unless someone actually moved it, that is ;))

Still not quite sure what to do about that. Merging the old AA stuff into a new 'gaming' category of forums here is still a possibility.

Doesn't hold up; the point is, what's *wrong* with having them in an uncensored form?

I'm not saying it shouldn't be in the forum code, obviously; just wondering whether it really needs to be switched on on The Iconbar. If someone is swearing in any of the main forums, it's because they really want to get the power of their feelings across. If they're swearing in The Playpen... well, people know what to expect in there :)

Are you considering merging some of the forums on here too, seeing as they're underused - like creating a Multimedia forum as per the revised sections :)

Why not have a "censor rude words" option in a user's control panel, and turn it on by default and for unregistered users.
