Unregistered user The message board's been upgraded! <jazzclub> Nice </jazzclub>

But the font size is too small now! Okay, so I'm using Netscape on Linux, rather than the fabby risc os, but all the fonts look rather mangled and bitty and really rather unreadable. Any chance of having them back to normal sizes? Or some kind of option?

Unregistered user This seems to be a common problem with X-11 browsers. And Macs, as they use a different DPI for desktop display. And there's now a RISC OS-only style sheet on the site due to Oregano not liking the default one. So basically a non-Windows problem then? :)

I think the CSS, as with the rest of the site, is still being tweaked and so we should be able to fix this RSN.

Unregistered user Steve, some of these are excellent!

Is it my misunderstanding or didn't the :( mean disappointment? I get an angry face when I use it.

Tim, can I see the smileys that are available on this board somewhere?

Unregistered user I think it would be a good idea if there was a page showing the smileys available, along with the required textual version. Shouldn't be too hard to arrange?

Cheers,
Stephen

Oh dear... that first smilie above is supposed to be a bracket. I checked it in the edit and it's just a bracket. There is no ; !!

"Actually, I'm not sure they were counted - I acidentally posted the repeats when refreshing a page. Then, when I erased one of them, it erased them both. Very odd."

That's because at the moment the editpost uses a rather primitive search-and-replace method, so if you have two identical messages, it changes them both.

You also shouldn't be able to edit a message to be blank. Hmmm.

The bracket to smiley thing is very odd.

Unregistered user Yeah that's another little bug that's got me puzzled. It basically means that the threaded message list for this thread (which is what appears in the box at the top of this page) has become corrupt. That's why the last 6 or so messages don't appear in that list for this thread.

I think.

Unregistered user ...Which didn't work. Multiple spaces (including hard spaces) are ignored in HTML which is the real reason why you can't do ASCII art like this in forums.

You can however use the <pre> tag, which is one of the HTML tags allowed in posts (hmmm I should probably update the FAQ shouldn't I...).

Unregistered user I've worked out what that bracket bug's all about as well. Basically when you post special HTML characters such as > and " get converted into their HTML entity equivalent, so " becomes &quot;. So when you have quotation marks immediately folloed by a bracket, you'll end up with: &quot;). Because ;) is one of the smileys, then it's converted into the appropriate image.

It'll be fixed in the next version :).

Oh, OK then.

Actually, I'm annoyed about the stick body. There is a space in front of it but for some reason it appears misaligned. Looks fine when I edit it though...

I swear this thead is jinxed! smile

I'm off to ROUGOL now...

Aahh, I see. shock

Seems theres plenty that we "shouldn't" be able to do.

And the bracket thing is very odd, I quite agree. But the occasional oddity gives a website character, I think wink

PS (the edit) : I'm getting

Error: Parent mesage id not found in existing threaded list.

...more and more often lately ... is that another oddity?

Unregistered user I have a number of new "smileys" done, but need to write another program to do things properly.

Basically I thought it'd be cool if any member of the site could have a smiley that looks a bit like themselves, and maybe put it in their sig; however, I hadn't counted on the number of permutations this allows for! I have all the average male smileys done - white, black and asian faces (generic, as I couldn't get enough detail to make Oriental smileys greatly different to those from the Indian subcontinent) with black, brown, blond and red hair in short or long styles - but then I realised I'd have to do some for the, er, more robust gentleman, with glasses or without, with various types of facial hair, balding patterns... and then the same number for the female of the species (bar the facial hair and balding - mostly).

So it'd probably make more sense to design some basic pieces and get a program to stich them together in all the different styles. I can then even go as far as eye colour 'cos it'd just be another variable wink

Of course, then you'll all have to work out the notation system to get them to work properly - something like :mwrbsgp: (male, white, regular face shape, short blond hair, goatee, no glasses). Or just use the vampire smiley smile

Wow, I'm impressed.

However, my hard space did work on the second try, but the head was in the wrong place so I tried again, but something was amiss... frown

Do I feel silly? Yes I do. However, not being put off by such a fact, I have persevered...
And I think this is the closest I'm going to get!

(BTW Editing does some really odd things to my HTML)
