It's a bit tedious, running around doing maintainance at first, especially if you are really strapped for cash. Building up the inventions helps, but costs a fortune.

I don't like starting on plutonium planets because all my money ends up going into keeping the agriculture going, and they start off with hardly any base income (i.e. amount of tax before you've built cities), and at the start of the game every MC counts.

The Teri are the best allies IMO. As has already been said the Yo'Kon are hopeless, and the Urkash are a little unreliable and dangerous. The Gordoon won't accept alliances, anyway, although I've had them offer me one. No race seems to be bothered about attacking you even if you are allied to them, though unhappy

Right I've dug out Browse so hopefully I shouldn't have any problems (I'll hand a big bug list to R-comp at the show)
Later on in the game....

1. If you can afford it become a guild member, they will always support you with twenty military units.
2. Try not to bomb planets, although useful for softening them up, if you take them over you will spend lots tidying up.
3. Don't spend on warships later you will have the radar manipulation so you won't need them.
4. Don't attack Guild patrol's, it may be fun but they fine you for it at the end of the game!!!
5. make sure you have plenty of Air defence guns, certain lords if they lose a battle will attack.
6. If you have lord Ya ni noi in your game theres a good chane that he'll be the strongest lord so it might be wise to try and ally with him.
Plenty more where these came from, if you want more give me a yell.
Thanks for editing my earlier post Rich, I hope that Browse solves these problems.

I've got a nice and simple idea: A small upgrade to add a game mode where you have no goal to complete. This would allow people to do whatever they want without running out of time, for example colonising every planet, building a peaceful alliance, wiping everyone out, etc.

Oooops tongue

It's actually a very sound idea, especially when your playing might it is very difficult to stay within the 200 months and incredibly frustraing to have your game end like that.

Indeed it is!
If some sort of patch were released that could allow this, then I'd probably start playing it again.

do i take 'block' as a joke or attempted insult? shock
I'd rather just let Artex get on with it, and then, if they want to, then they release a 'patch' for it as Westwood did with the C7C series rather than a 3rd party patch.

I think the patch is a great idea and perhaps wouldn't be too difficult to allow us to have free reign over gameplay??

Well... I could do that if I find the time. However it'll have to wait until TEK is released. As some might know, the TEK CD will contain some interesting 'goodies' ;-)

Well, if you find the time to do a test during the next two weeks, and if you're able to receive an NDA using "Word" and send it back via a fax - well, then this might work (write me a mail) :-)

Besides, if Jeffrey decides to do the test, we won't need more testers now :-)

Is a fax modem okay? Or do you want it signed in ink?

We need it in ink, however you can scan your handwritten signature and put that in, that'd be OK as well.

Why not print the Word doc out, sign it and send it back by normal post?

Controversial suggestion I know but...

How about an unofficial one?

Well, if you find the time to do a test during the next two weeks

Presumably this means TEK will be done 'soon'...

Hi Andrew,

I do mainly use TopModel and Bryce. Although if I ever get the cash I would like to migrate to Cinema4DXL R7. I've managed to build up an array of mainly PC based resources for doing various graphicy type things which I believe covers a lot of ground.

TEK was done using TopModel and rendered in Bryce. Compositing was done using the fabulous Compo. Other things like the waterfall were done in Illusion / Compo. Trees were done using Tree Druid. Textures were done using Photodesk. Lots of other apps (like Xara X) have been used at various stages.

I recently bought BodyPaint3D which should prove useful if I ever get time to use / learn to use it.

Cheers,

Max

PS If people are interested in how various things were done in TEK then fire away!

Hi,

I see.
You created a waterfall in Illusionist? Ths sounds clever. Is it animated?

You seem to have quite a powerful graphical a**enal!
Do you enjoy programming or drawing more? I'd say the latter although like you I like the idea of putting it all together into something animated and playable!

Andrew
