Yes, do tell. Going anywhere nice enough to make us jealous?

Err. Would you be jealous if I said I was going to Exeter? tongue I thought not. I'm playing for the Queen, actually grin - part of some Jubilee event, I believe.

Playing?

It was cool. If you are in the westcountry - I was on Spotlight grin Anyway, I'm back to the old computer again. Improvisation is pretty tricky - I wouldn't say you could ever 'master' it you just keep improving.

You can master it in the sense that you can get good enough at it to pull it off with confidence. That is the state that I almost achieved, in my hay day. indiff

Is Jazz complex - it always seems almost random to an ignoramus like me?
Yeah, I'd say it was pretty complex. There's a lot of stuff that's common between classical + jazz music, though. Learning your scales helps grin What might sound random is often several practised phrases which the player often uses - all stuck together in different orders.
Anyway, I'm going home now, for a nice ... long ... holiday ... aaaaaaah. cool
I read this about guitar solos that it's a collection of ideas and expressions. I prefer them to have some kind of theme or lead somehwere though often.

Deliberate randomness. Jazz is 'nice'.

Yeah.

Decent improvisation takes an absurd amount of skill and icky know-how. A skill I almost mastered, but then lost somwhere at uni... unhappy

Unregistered user About 9 years. I'm not bad, if I do say so myself grin
Hope old queenie likes it. I play with the county jazz band. We've got dancers prancing around as well - gives em something pretty to look at I guess - better than a bunch of miserable musicians tongue
