Metroid Prime Pinball arrived this morning!
Since, yet again, I am beset by mad deadline fever, I've only had time for a quick couple of games on one of the two tables available initially, but so far, results are encouraging.
I've never really played a Metroid game before, so I can't comment on the integration into the Metroid universe, but the basic physics seem fairly good (although not even close to the peerless Visual Pinball) and the non-realistic video-game elements are good, too, although not as wonderfully over-the-top as the surreal brilliance that is Flipnic. (YOU GET ALL FLAMINGOS!!!)

Is it me or are the boss battles stupidly pathetically easy? See! Only a couple more battles left and I'll have finished the game. The dalek-mole-tank thing was mildly annoying (i.e. it took two attempts), but only because the game wasn't conserving my horizontal momentum when I was jumping off of the gun barrels |

...and that's the stupid princess rescued. Being able to use the giant toadstool to defeat the bosses makes things a bit easy, doesn't it?
*reminds everyone how excellent Warioland 4 was*
Oh well, at least the fact I now get to play as Luigi means I can't complain about how they called it Super Mario Bros. and then only included one of them in the singleplayer game
*complains about how most of the minigames are the same as the ones in Mario 64 DS instead. And about how they fail to beat the THREE minigames that were in Warioland 4. And how Mario is ten times less manly stud than the manly stud that is Wario*

*and how the ending credits aren't anywhere near as good as Warioland 4, or how the game has diminished replay value because it doesn't have different difficulty levels like Warioland 4*

And incase you haven't worked it out yet, you should buy Warioland 4 now if you haven't played it before. It's grrrreeeat! (And only £4.95 )

What was the Mario game called - at least I think it was a Mario one - that was released for the Nintendo 64, around the same sort of time as Goldeneye? Set in a big 3D world. ISTR quite enjoying that one, even though the Mario games weren't really my cup of tea. |

May I suggest Warioland 4, instead? Some people say that it's too easy. It uses a HP based system instead of "one hit and you're out". You get 8 little hearts, and lose one (two?) each time you get hurt by an enemy. You gain hearts by collecting the ones that drop out of the monsters you kill. And if you do lose all your hearts, you don't have to deal with a practically pointless "Game over. Continue?" prompt either - you just get booted out of the level and lose some of your treasure. And Wario has more attacks to get rid of the enemies, and doesn't seem to grease his shoes so much The boss battles are trickier, though (as are the harder difficulty levels). And the only time limit on the levels is when you're trying to make your way back out (unless you play on Super Hard difficulty, in which case it starts straight away). |
