Because (I think) we've only mentioned him in the staff forums before.

But he does seem to be getting lots of coverage on other gaming websites, so perhaps you need to expand your horizons a bit.

Yes, but I actually visit/read the Escapist every now and again anyway, so I would have thought I'd have noticed him before.

His coverage shouldn't be restricted to gaming websites. I know precisely zilch about half the games he's reviewed and his reviews are funny as hell anyway.

shock

I hadn't thought of that.

Are friend codes tied to the console or the cartridge?

They're tied to the console, so that Filthy Mc. Child Molester can't steal your cartridge and abuse your friends. But if he steals your console then you're buggered (Or maybe your friends are).

But that doesn't make much sense, so chances are it's tied to the console so that if the cartridge gets sold without the old owner wiping it then the new owner won't have any way of accessing your friends.

*pokes monkey*

Does your DS Lite give you hand cramp problems like the DS phat used to? Because I have just discovered that padding the front corners of my DS using two (used) socks works wonders, making my hard DS a much better fit my manly hands, so that I can play the manly & hard Contra without being put off by CRIPPLING AGONIZING PAIN.

Hot piss! There's a "Jeff Lee" listed in the programming credits for Contra 4! This is clearly a sign that it is the best game ever, for I have worked on it. (Well, not me personally, but one of my army of clones).

The boss for level two is HARD.

First you have to shoot a load of enemies that come out of a door. Which is piss easy because they all come out single-file and take one shot to die. (Except that the first time I came to that bit I thought "Ah, the exit! Doesn't look like there's a boss for this level, so I'll just stand infront of this exit door and wait for it to open", only to get flattened by all the baddies)

Then four guys appear on the roof of the building and start shooting at you, so you have to kill those. But again they're quite weak, so it isn't that hard.

But then two towers shoot out of the roof of the building, with a couple of heavily-armoured grenade-tossers ontop, so you've got to kill them next - a bit more tricky.

Then four guys with even heavier armour appear ontop of the roof and start shooting at you. But due to the way they shoot at you, if you get the timing right you can walk back and forth along the front of the building dodging between their shots. But it is quite hard to do without dieing, since you need to watch both screens a lot more than before.

Then, after you've got rid of that lot, a great big massive alien thing comes up from behind the building, filling both screens. You've got to shoot at its head while it stabs at you with giant pointed arms. And after trying to stab you with its arms a few times it will try and skewer you from the side of the screen with its tail, before spitting venom ball things all over the place from its mouth. And then lifting up the platform your on to head height and spitting more balls at you.

And then, when you think it's all over as it is shrouded in a series of explosions... it hurls the platform you're on down the side of the cliff you just climbed up, and starts crawling down after it, all the time spitting venom balls at you.

And after that... well, I DIED.

Why can't there be more boss fights like this, instead of the crap most other games spew out?

I made it to level 3. Hurrah! Level 2 boss is now EASY.

Level 3 is STRANGE, and only appears to be hard because of its strangeness (pseudo-3D corridor level thing, so lots of dodgy hit detection against the sprite characters. But at least you can still avoid 90% of enemy fire by lieing down!)

Level 3 is FAR TOO EASY, since I almost completed it twice in a row. (Why twice? Because I died horribly on level 4, of course)

Level 4 is INSANE. There are two things that could easily be a boss, but aren't. I'm dreading to think what the actual boss will be like.

Also the amount of big moving things in the levels makes almost all first person shooters look primitive in comparison. When was the last time in an FPS where you had to climb up the side of a rocket that's just been launched from a platform, and battle a giant robot that's jumped onto the rocket and is trying to swipe you off? And then as the first stage of the rocket detaches and the second stage changes pitch to fly horizontally, you have to keep moving up the rocket jumping between temporary handholds while dodging missiles fired at you from below?

I've just reached level 9, and what I assume is the big bad boss. He's so big and bad that he's about 10 or 20 screens tall. But how on earth do you get up to his head so you can shoot his brains in? Easy... by shooting at and then climbing up through his anus!

CONTRA 4 IS THE BEST GAME EVER.

(Although the anus may actually be a vagina, since it was rather large and gaping, and there are numerous growths inside him/her that spit newborn enemies at you).

But still... rectal/vaginal extraterrestrial combat. Not many games can offer that!

I have reached the final boss! Now I just need to work out how to dodge his seemingly undodgeable attacks. Presumably his hardness will make up for the relative easyness of the preceeding few bosses.

Don't you just hate that? If there's a proper learning curve the impossible seems just within your grasp, but sudden jumps like that can kill a game dead. Still, if it's the last boss, I guess that doesn't matter much.

Apart from the easy bosses, most bosses look to be seemingly impossible the first time you see them - but after a couple of goes you'll know what areas of the screen to stand in and what hints to look for that the boss is about to do a certain attack. I've just reached level 9 again, and after just a minute or two of standing around I know what each of his attacks look like and where to stand in order to avoid getting hit by them. So then I managed to complete the first stage, only to get killed straight away at the start of the second stage tongue

Animal Crossing Wii! And a film! Wait till I tell Blathers about this!

The Animal Crossing movie has so far only been released in Japan. And looks - as far as movies go - awful.
