I have a set of in-ear earphones but the cable between the cable fasten and one ear is much shorter than the other. Is this a fault or are they intended to be that way?

They're meant to be like that.

Sad but true, it's on purpose. The idea is that the shorter one goes directly into your ear, and the longer one goes round the back of your neck, so that there's less cabling to get tangled up and look unsightly round the front. Personally I think it's daft.

I dunno. I have a pair like that (I had an excellent older pair but they broke) but I just wear them round the front and put up with the dangling, or tuck the dangly bit inside my clothes.

Yes, I generally find things go better in day-to-day life when my dangly bits are kept tucked inside my clothes.
