It's a Digital Symphony file, which is, as far as I know, not playable on any other operating system.
I considered a RISC OS forum to be the most appropriate place to post links to RISC OS materials. |

There is actually an win32 and unix application that plays many bizarre and weird tracker formats including Digital Symphony, Desktop Tracker and Tracker. It's really quite impressive.
There isn't a GUI, it's simply a command line application but at least you can play them at high quality on your pc.
It's continually getting updated by the author.

Hmm. That looks extremely interesting - thanks. I may well consider updating my music page to mention that and add file extensions to the downloads...
By the way, something I've been meaning to ask for ages: Are you the same Nytrex who composed the 'Spacewave' track, and do you have a website with this sort of thing? |

Are you the same nytrex who composed the 'Spacewave' track, and do you have a website with this sort of thing? Yes, that's one of mine from many years ago. I've got quite a few unreleased tracker songs on my RiscPC, but I have no way of transferring any data from my RiscPC to my floppyless PC notebook. Do you know of a *really* cheap way of transferring a large quantity of data? I don't want to lose all my software and music to the mists of time.
I stopped writing music a long time ago, but have recently started writing a bit with buzz and the V2 software synth on a PC (now that its being developed again!), and it's really an amazing piece of free software.
The best tracker on RISC OS was the port of ProTracker from the Amiga. It was identical in every way, except that the play routine played the notes about a semitone too low. If they just fixed that it would have been the perfect music editor. Shame it was never fixed.
Also, here is a link to an pretty cool unreleased ScreamTracker3 song written by Cry using Digital Symphony (I assume). Cry was the musician in the well respected RISC OS demo group 'The Xperience'. Here's the link - ftp://ftp.amigascne.org/mirrors/ftp.modland.com/pub/modules/Screamtracker%203/Cry/
Enjoy.

There may also be other methods. |

I managed to transfer the contents of my RiscPC hard disc using a CF card and some Windows imaging software. All my old RISC OS tunes are now safely stored on a DVD. |

Cool. Any plans to release them into the wild? Yes, that's the plan, but I'm away in Oz at the moment and I'm not sure when I'll be reunited with my DVD's again. Eventually, I'd like to have a web page where you can download all music from Acorn musicians (past and present).

yeah, there's one way I used to backup my HDD. Buy a very cheap USB<>Laptop IDE adapter and DD (or other raw imaging software) the drive and mount in emulator (if need to access data) |

Will have to look at XMP, I haven't found anything which plays WIMPTracker files properly yet :(
Currently had to record filterless audio from A3000, but it's not ideal since the ROS with VIDC has some base noise issues. |
