I just had to restart the database. All the events on another website were screwed - instead of (e.g.) * Wednesday, 7th April they read * Tuesday, 6th April to Wednesday, 7th April 10:59
Took me a few minute to realise - daylight savings time. They're stored as DATETIME in the DB, so they look fine checking manually (7th April 00:00 to 23:59), but the UNIXTIME call was returning GMT for events in the BST window, even though the MySQL website says it returns localtime. Adding one line of mysqld_safe configuration fixed it.
Doesn't help that I test the code on a Windows box (still with Apache/MySQL/PHP), which was working correctly. ________ Cheers, Rich.

I had actually completely failed to notice that it was that time of year again - but on Sunday morning when I picked up my phone it informed me that the clock had been updated. Prompted by this, I then checked the one item I thought I'd need to update: my watch, but even that had updated itself.
Funny - I don't remember it being one of those watches that pick up a time signal, and nor do I remember it having some kind of built in function to automatically change to and from daylight savings time when necessary; neither of these things were listed as selling points when I bought it.
I also don't remember it changing automatically six months ago, or twelve months ago, or eighteen months ago (and so on), but then again, nor do I remember actually changing it myself.
This, of course, is not a site comment. Ho hum. |

(Psst - Your watch probably hasn't updated itself because BST doesn't start for another couple of weeks. And probably because it doesn't update itself automatically. No idea what's wrong with your phone though! ) |

(Psst - Your watch probably hasn't updated itself because BST doesn't start for another couple of weeks. And probably because it doesn't update itself automatically. No idea what's wrong with your phone though! ) Ah, I see - so what actually happened was that my phone strangely told me it had updated when it in fact hadn't. It lied to me.
I knew the change happens sometime in March, so I just accepted what it had said, and noting the time was right on the things that also update automatically, I assumed they had, well, updated. Automatically.
It was only the watch that threw me. (It's a very strong watch.) |
