Hello,

I've been looking for some old games from the Acorn Archimedes, but one in particular seems to be difficult to find. It was a golf game, and I can remember it fairly well, but describing it so that you can tell it apart from other golf games is rather hard (for instance, you could choose between the various iron/wood clubs, but I assume that's fairly common to golf games). I've found screenshots of Superior Golf, but that's not the right game.

The only particularly distinguishing feature I can think of is that when you hit the golf ball onto the green, the view changed to an overhead view for the putt.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

I think the one you're thinking of is "Holed Out" - you can get it from APDL (scroll down to "Sporting Games Collection" about halfway down).

Have you also had a nose around on the STH forum?

There was also Microdrive, but Holed Out was better IMO.

IIRC there was also International Golf, I had a demo of it on a mag. disc. I vaguely remember changing one of the clubs to have a range of 2KM and called it the Bazooka, and one of the bird sound effects to a rifle gunshot, so just to be accurate about living in Somerset, maybe should have added Quarry blasting to that to :D

List of known (commercial) golf games for RISC OS:

Holed Out (plus extra courses, contruction kit) - 4th Dimension, now sold by APDL

Virtual Golf (mouse swing, better graphics, more detail in courses) - 4th Dimension, now sold by APDL

Superior Golf - now possibly sold by APDL.

World Class Leaderboard (port was part of a compilation) - Krisalis, now part of Krisalis Gold CD from RCI

International Golf (can't remember who did it, but I think it was the "Superpack", "Hyperpack" game bundle lot)

MicroDrive (again, I forget the details).

Interesting, I didn't know there were so many golfing games on RISC OS - I was aware of only maybe four. However, getting back to the original poster's question, I still think it was Holed Out he was thinking of. Hopefully he comes back someday and lets us know big smile

I managed to find a YouTube of the BBC Micro version, and it looks like Holed Out is the game I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any screenshots/videos of the Archimedes version, and the link you provided seems to be dead at the moment: I just get the message "Holding page for www.apdl.co.uk".

Any ideas on how I could check to see if it's the game I'm thinking of?

Thanks for the speedy responses!

This one? 1:30 for the golfing itself, and 2:40 for the overhead putting view.

Hmm, so it does - funny, as it was working earlier. Anyway, the BBC version seems to be the same as I recall the Acorn version being; I'm pretty sure it's the game you're after. You can find a cached version of the APDL site from the Wayback Machine*, for example, which will have contact information and the information I referred to about the sports games pack.

* EDIT: ooh, I forgot this forum doesn't like nested links with internal instances of http in them. I'll do it like this instead: http://web.archive.org/web/20080419230816/http://www.apdl.co.uk/games.htm
