What can I do about that? Wanted to try "Legends of the lost temple" on my 4MB A4000 running RO3.11 but seems a non-starter. Google suggested mode 12 but that didn't help, nor did manipulating system heap/stack via Task Manager. |

Sadly it probably only works on OS2 or Arthur. Some of those very early games basically regarded the desktop and other "standard" parts of the OS as optional stuff, and assumed they were being run from supervisor mode (like old BBC titles). It was common to use things like MemAlloc module to re-size memory areas in ways which later OSs wouldn't allow, hence things don't work. Many early titles also assumed only 1Mb of RAM, and did wierd things on larger RAM systems.
I forget the exact behaviour, but I remember that larger RAM systems would allocate memory more coarsely (ie. in larger blocks) than smaller RAM machines, so some modes would use more RAM for video etc on 4Mb machines, which would sometimes cause odd side-effects. It's more than 20 years ago, though, so my recollection is rusty.
It *might* be worth delete/R-power-on (I remember having to do that one Christmas before I could make Pandora's Box work), to reset how things are configured. |

Yes I did read about the RO2 issue, thanks for further clearing this up. I've been told however that it "runs on a RISC OS 3.1 machine", suggesting a real Acorn was used. Does this sound like some sort of UniBoot (which is how I run my Arc) problem? Del-Boot sounds a bit drastic didn't that erase the cmos settings? |

Shift Boot worked! Can't get past the copy protection though Keeps asking me to press a key and select the resulting colour from the palette. The colour always turns out to be grey though. Argh |

Try creating a RAM disc to take the available memory to just below 1024k
This used to work for some old stuff I had! |

Argh Patric, I told you : use the right disk one I've sent you : this one is cracked so there is no copy protection. The other archive, with 2 files, contains the disk images of the original disk one and disk two, so don't use disk one from this archive. The game runs perfectly, then. Cheers. |
