After several failed attempts I managed to get the latest version of MAME 0.145 http://mamedev.org/ running on RISC OS.

All the games I tried from before the mid 80's work at full speed with sound on a Pandaboard. It'll even run very slowly on a RISC PC but you don't want to be doing that!

If anyone wants to try it out I can make a test version available for download.

You can download a test version of mame 0.145 for RISC OS here http://www.cgransden.co.uk/mame.zip. It needs at least a Beagleboard to run relatively smoothly.

I've uploaded another test version of mame 0.145 at http://www.cgransden.co.uk/mame.zip . This version has support for around 1700 roms. Due to resource/memory requirements it's RISC OS 5+ only.

Chris

Have you got any further with this?

I am planning on building a tabletop and would like to use a mini/micro pc like the Beagle or Panda.

Can the Mame front ends be used with this hardware, or should I be looking at a standard PC with Winblows?

It might be too slow running alot of the games using RISC OS. There's no hardware screen scaling or rotation.
I imagine using a standard PC would be best from a performance viewpoint.

Thanks Chris. Shame, I was hoping to play with one of these boards. I'll have to think of another project after this Mame build.
