Can't seem to open the zip file, tells me it is invalid - would really love a copy of Elite Extensions if anyone can point me in the right direction, was once very easy to find on the web... now increasingly very absent. |

If you mean the one at elite.acornarcade.com - that's not a ZIP file, it's a self-extracting archive.
Set the filetype to "Obey" and double-click on the file. |

Set the filetype to "Obey" and double-click on the file. I'm currently using the emulator RedSquirrel, do I need to put the "zip" on my hard disk and then do this obey thing through redsquirrel? Do you have any relevant information regarding this (i.e. reading material)? |

Yes, you'd do it under Red Squirrel. The process is:
1. Select the file by clicking on it. 2. Press the middle mouse button (this usually translates as "press the scroll wheel", but you may have configured Red Squirrel to map it to the right mouse button instead). A pop-up menu will appear. 3. Move the mouse pointer to the "Set type" entry (aim for the arrow just to the right of "Set type"). A "Set type" field will appear. 4. Delete the text already in the "Set type" field and enter "Obey", then press RETURN.
If you want reading material, it's explained in the "Advanced Filer operations" section of the RISC OS 3 User Guide: http://www.riscos.com/support/users/userguide3/bookb/book_3.html#heading3-137 |

I've just tried it using RPCEmu (RISC OS 3.7). The unpacking process fails if you try to do it from HostFS, but works if you do it from ADFS.
Ensure you've copied the file to HardDisc4 before trying to run it. |

If ADFS isn't available, it is worth remembering that RAMFS works in the same way as ADFS, so you could unpack it there (to RAM disc).
I just used this technique yesterday with an old game that wouldn't run from hostfs - I altered the Run file to copy it to RAM disc, and it ran beautifully from there. |
