Anyone see the US versions of Steptoe ("Sandford and Son";) and One Foot In The Grave ("Cosby";) on beeb 4 last night? They took away all the dark moments, the dramatic elements, the grumpiness and the "bleeeeegh harold"ness to leave the one line gags.

The two Red Dwarf pilots are... "interesting".

(Actually, they're not quite as bad as they're painted; pretty poor really, but with some good moments.)

Remakes of shows don't normally work because shows gather cult followings, and the things they change when the remake a show are precisely the things people love.

I've not seen the US version of One Foot In The Grave (Cosby - what the hell?), but it doesn't sound good.

Likewise, I doubt a UK version of Friends would work very well...
