OK, I've implemented mod_mem_cache on this site based on work I did on my own domain - does it seem to load quicker, for those of you with fast machines and fast network connections?

What it does is hold commonly-used graphics[*] in memory instead of loading them from disc all the time. This *appears* to give a slightly slower response for me right after rebooting the server, and then shit off a shovel graphic loading times after that. And I've got the "always refresh content" options on in my browsers so I can see changes I make to code etc.

But YMMV - you might see no change at all.

* I say graphics because I pointed it at the two main image areas (/images and /news/images) which (counting subdirectories) should account for all the images on the front page. You could point them at other types of files - but all TIB pages are generated on the fly, so it'd be a bit pointless.

It is now you've clicked on it :) At least until the server realises that it's not a big priority compared to the rest of the images.

Not that I'm a big fan of Sophie Ellis-Bexter. But in that outfit - you would, wouldn't you?
