The new software and software update sections on the TIB front page is a bit spammy too :(

This has now been completely re-written.
* You have to be logged in to post
* it uses the database to store the data, so old stuff doesn't get dropped
* HTML allowed in the main description (although linefeeds are automagic)
* stuff like who posted and from where are logged properly.

Oh, and instead of four files to do all this, it's one file that uses a little Apache redirect magic to handle everything. The front page lists are handled by a single function now too.

I've also done some work recently on the RSS (etc.) feeds; instead of having large scripts with many duplicated bits of code, and grepping their data from a text file (latest.txt), they now all use a common chunk of code which grabs data directly from the database. I also pushed them through validators (e.g. W3C) to make sure they're 100% working (although you might see problems an automated script can't ;)). Atom 0.3 is supposedly outdated, so I'm working on a new Atom 1.0 version.

You can probably see where this is going... RSS feeds getting data from DB... new software now in DB... RSS feeds of new software coming up, maybe?

Edit: Done [3:33pm]. Pretty simple now that everything's in one file...

Back to the original problem, which was comment spam in AA. I noticed that there was a load of comment spam for news articles on AA. After disabling all comments and manually removing the junk, I debated whether to leave it like that or not ;)

Eventaully I re-wrote most of comment.php3 to have better sanity checking (the code was showing it's age), and a spam filter. You also have to be logged in, and your "realname" is used (but "email" is disabled), so no anonymous posting.

I'd post this on AA but... meh.

I find it a shame that AA is no longer updated. :(
All it needs is a few minutes to write an article or two.
There is quite a bit of games news so there isn't a shortage of news to write about.
