Did anyone ever play Quake online using a Quake server. If so, do they still operate?

Last time I checked (a few months ago) there were still plenty of Quake servers around. However, the only real way of finding them would be through a PC program such as Gamespy Arcade. I've also header of a program called All-Seeing-Eye, which may or may not be open source (and so stand some chance of being ported to RISC OS).

Surely you just need an IP address or something like that don't you to type into the relevant box in the game?

Yes, but unless you want to be stuck on servers with high pings, or repeatedly fail to connect because you don't have the right map/mod (or the server is full), getting a server spy tool would be a good idea smile

Of course there are probably a few websites out there with server IP's listed on them. There may even be some status info as well.

Could check planetQuake.com I suppose.
I'm wondering if the networking part of the game was converted mainly with local networks or modem to modem play in mind.
