I was wondering whether anyone out there has a copy of the RISC OS port of this classic and could comment on whether it runs on a RISC PC 700 SA RO 4 ?

Other than that,seeing as how this is my first post, I'd like to say I've just recently returned to the RISC OS scene and look forward to both trying to get my old games I used to play years back on my A3000 working and flesh out my collection with some more recent additions - so I have no doubt you'll see a fair few posts from me in the near future !

R-Comp have a CD which contains a shedload of patches for games to get them running on modern machines. Alone in the Dark is one of them.
Not sure where you'd get hold of the actual game, although R-Comp might be a good place to start.

I would say its easily worth £15 of anyones money - the game is a classic; there is still a large following for this game and the series it spawned on the PC to this day. Its sad that the appalling sales of AitD were the principle reason for Krisalis leaving the Acorn games scene - but I can understand why they baled; if you port a hugely successful game from the PC you expect at least enough sales to have made it worth the effort .. I notice that there isn't a review on AA - I think that there was a review in AU a while back but if no-one can dig that out I could be persuaded to write a more current one ? Best Regards

Not that I want to rob the dwindling (dead?) Acorn gaming scene of much-needed income, but they have a copy of AitD on the AUCD-10, which works last I checked on a SA RPC700 running 3.7 and all you need to do is print out a copy of which object belongs to which page of the manual.

the AU Games CD; however for £15 I think its still worth a
buy just to get the little extra's (original printed manual, a
proper copy of the little book, that psuedo Gazette) But
then I freely confess to being an AitD nut

Does anyone have an idea as to where I can get a copy of the AUCD-10 ? One of the discs from my original copy of Wolfenstein 3D is beyond repair and I had heard they had a copy of the game on this CD.

I have Wolf3D but it won't work on my machine... I don't recall seeing it on the CD but I'll give it another look sometime.

I'm an Elite nut and I have an original copy of ArcElite Gold, and have been trying for years (surprisingly unsuccessfully) to get my hands on a proper copy of one which has the Dark Wheel novella still intact. But I have the datacards and the trading pad, all I'm really missing now is the novella and the keystrip :-(

Really? I picked up a complete cassette Elite with everything in, and in pretty good condition, from the charity stall at Wakefield a couple of years ago. Ask me nicely and I'll look out for another this year.
