This is something I used to discuss with my brother and is probably my favourite kind of game on the Beeb because of the exploration - the isometric ones were awkward I found and there were very few overhead walkabouts that I can think of (any?) Anyway here goes (some were pretty closely based on eachother I know!):

Yes I've never really thought of it as a platformer but the Doc is right I suppose. Some good ones there Professor 
However I really wouldn't say The Sentinel.Once this thread is done I could perhaps have a go at sorting the titles under publishers and then we'd have the definite list for anybody who wants to choose which they want to play. There's also Spooksville - a virtual copy of Citadel (publisher?) Thunderstruck 1 and 2 (Audiogenic)

Wot? No Codename Droid???? Not really a great platformer, although interesting at the time. I thought Shark (Audiogenic) was pretty good but I've played it since and now I'm not so sure.  The Electron version of Shark is quite cute, though. Thinking of Electron versions: did anyone mention Frak!? What about Drain Mania? |

Shark was similar to Droid I think - I think I'd call them platformers though yes.

It was originally published by Icon Software: http://www.beebgames.com/icon.htm One thing though - how many cool games are there mentioned on that page? Breakthrough, Impact and Ransack are all pretty good, although only Breakthrough could really be considered to be a platformer. |

I think I've played Network and Ransack - weren't they on a PIAS compilation. Or maybe one was reissued as Budget at some point. Also Last of the Free. Remember a game called Contraption, some fo the best drawn graphics in a BBC game. There's also Doctor Who and the mines of terror -I wouldn't mind getting the original but it was on ROM apparently so I'd have to get a BBC Micro. I could give it to my brother though who has one. The package had instructions, a story and so on I think. The Exile reviewer even compared Exile to it!<br><br>[Edited by andreww at 10:02, 31/1/2003]

Played Nightworld last night for the first time in years. It has the novel idea that you turn into a winged creature every so often and so can fly further. Also notable for the way the colours on the screen change each time you re-enter it.
No idea what I'm doing though ;-)  |

I have Dr Who and the Mines of Terror including the Rom image on the hard drive all ready to run, but so far neither of our two emulators will run it :-(
I'll have to experiment further as I'm sure I've had it running under emulation before (it may have been on the PC :-( I believe the Exile reviewer said something along the lines of 'Micropower made something like this with their Dr Who program which had the same fiendish puzzles but failed misurably with the graphics and sound.' I happen to have 2 copies of Dr Who and the Mines of Terror on cassette complete with instructions and Rom chips...

Hi,
Yes, I'll sell you one of them. Lets see, £12.95 when I bought it, taking into account inflation should bring it to about, ooh, £60.00 ;-)Back to reality. Send me an email to discuss price (I'm not after silly money) and where to send it. You need to plug the Rom chip into a spare slot inside the BBC (B not Master) and then load the game from tape. There was also a Disc version (plus ROM chip), but I never actually found one.
I don't know what info is stored in the ROM but there's 16k of it (quite a bit for a BBC game)
