Hello I am fairly new to the emulation of the Risc os but I have managed to get Red Squirrel up and running (after a while anyway) but getting everything else to work still eludes me. Any games I try and play simply open as what looks like a code window. I beleive this may be to do with losing the file types of the programs when I unzip in windows. Can I simpley use set Type to fix this? I do not know the original type of the games. One other thing when I try to use the Spark program an error saying cannot locate system resources pops up. Is this because I do not have a !System folder, if so where could i get one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ben |

Probably the best thing to do first is to get a !System folder up and running. I'm assuming that you don't have any of the special folders on your hard drive (!Boot, !System, !Scrap etc). Here you can get your hands on RISC OS 3 UniBoot that includes much of what you will need at first, including a !System folder (hidden inside the !Boot). To decompress the .zip file you can use dearchive.bas, filetype it to BASIC before trying to run it. Once you've decompressed the Uniboot to the root of your "hard drive" it's probably a good idea to restart the emulator to let the OS read what it needs from the !Boot folder. I don't remember wether double-clicking it will have the same effect so I recommend restarting. Much of your problems running other programs are probably due to filetyping as you've already guessed so using !Spark or !SparkPlug (filetype to BASIC). to decompress the programs you're trying to run is a good idea. Best of luck. Gulli |

Thank-you very much for this help, It does indeed turn out that I have no !System or any of the needed files. (!Scrap etc) I still have a problem though as I am stuck in a catch 22 situation. 1. I need the !System folder to operate my programs. 2. The !System folder is in the zipped uniboot which unzipped in windows strips the file types and renders the !System folder useless. 3. However to unzip the uniboot in the risc OS i need to use !Spark, which needs the !System file to operate. Is there any way around this? Thanks Ben p.s i realise u told me to use the dearchive.bas to uncrompress the uniboot zip but this seems only to install !Spark which i cannot use. My apologies if i am missing something obvious. |

Shift-Double-click on the SparkPlug program icon. This should open the folder rather than running it. Shift-Double-click on the !Run file.About halfway down the text file that opens is the line: if "<System$Path>" = "" then Error you need shared C library etc, etc, Placed a | in front of the 'if' and then save the file. SparkPlug should now run and allow you to uncompress zip files. Cheers! |
